2020 BHMR COVD-19 Information

*All rehearsals will be conducted in compliance with the FCPS and Maryland safety protocols*

After several meetings of the county band directors and the FCPS “Return to Play” sessions, we have set up a plan to allow us to have a marching season this fall.  All of the information in this email will also be posted on our website under the Boosters tab.  First and foremost: this year will not be the same as past years.  Even though we have a plan in place to return to marching band, we are still unsure about performances(football games, competitions, showcase, etc).  We are hoping that as we get closer to that time we will have more answers.  We are doing everything that we can to make sure the students have the chance to do something that they love, while also making sure that we are keeping them safe at the same time.

Per the FCPS guidelines, all students and instructors will have to follow a check-in/screening process, and will have to follow certain protocols while at rehearsal.  Face coverings will need to be worn by students and staff while at rehearsals.   Students are required to bring a beach towel to keep all of their belongings on, and will be spread out at a safe distance(6 feet apart).  Every student should have their own water bottle, sun screen, hat, equipment, and music.  After the first rehearsal, all equipment should go home with the students(aside from percussion instruments).

Band Camp will be very different this year.  The camp dates haven’t changed(Aug 10-21), but we will run split days.  By the county policy, we are only allowed 2 windows of time to be at the building to keep students from rehearsing in the heat with face covers on.  Wind players will rehearse from 8-11am, and Color Guard and Percussion will rehearse from 5-8pm.  This will help us to keep the total number at the school lower, and will keep the students within the same pods for rehearsals.

In the case of inclement weather, the effected rehearsals will be cancelled.  We are not allowed to rehearse in the buildings to help keep them clean, so we will not be able to relocate inside.  If for some reason we are caught outside, students will be dismissed immediately.  Students who drive can leave immediately, and other students will be able to find shelter and pack up.  FCPS is working on providing school busses at all schools to provide a space for students to go.

Below is a link to the Rehearsal Protocols, and to the FCPS Health form.  We are still waiting on a few more forms to be generated by FCPS, but once they are ready I will send everything out.  For now, please look at the website for any updates, and feel free to reach out with any questions.  If your student has not filled out the Google Sign Up, or you know of any incoming 9th grade families who are interested, please use the link below.  It is important for us to make sure that we have as close to accurate numbers are possible in case we need to make any adjustments.
